HDR (High Dynamic Range Images)

Now photography is introducing something new that's a twist on something old in architectural photography in Vancouver. As architectural photographers we often have extreme contrast to deal with (areas that are very dark and very light adjacent to each other). In the past we could take multiple exposures to deal with this. Now we can take a full range of multiple exposures say 8-10 images and we can merge and blend them together. With adjustments we can them make the images look natural and photographic and yet can deliver shadow and highlight detail. Or we can go extreme and enhance colour or texture and create a painterly looking images that looks halfway between an artists rendering and a Vancouver architectural photograph.

Why photographs are important for architects builder developers. Let's face it you can spend years developing, building or designing a project and now its come to fruition and its complete. Sure you talk about your projects with your new prospects and you may have some quick snaps by employees - shouldn't that be enough?

You may have spent millions developing, building or designing that special project now is the time to capitalize on your hard work by professionally capturing your special project with Now photography. Photography tell the story of that special design feature and the overall size and scope of the project. Photos tell your story with images not words. One well shot image can say more than many pages of text that describe the line, shape, colour or texture. The world's large architectural firms know this and properly photographically document their key projects. Photos can go into presentation kits, online, on brochures and ads and can be prominently displayed in offices, boardrooms, trade shows and conferences. Professional architectural photography showcases your projects and says we are proud to have built, developed or designed this!

Profession architectural photographs also make a nice gift to suppliers, partners, employees or other interested parties who work long hours on your special project.

Above all never underestimate the power of marketing you project with outstanding images. You can build or design a better building now is the time to get that image in the hands of the next group of decision makers that have the power to hire your firm on their special project.

A note on interiors

Interiors require special techniques to balance indoor and outdoor light and to color balance and light.

There are two approaches - one if there is a large amount of floor to ceiling windows and great natural light we can simply match the ratios of indoor and outdoor light. This works to keep photos looking natural with natural shadow and highlight areas. Sometimes indoor lighting with very little exterior light and similar colour balances can be captured nearly as is where we can see natural pools of light. We may supplement with additional lighting in overly dark areas. In cases of multiple light sources of different color temperatures and unnatural shadow areas things can be considerably more complex and we can add gels and supplemental strobe fill light along with multiple white balance exposures to help neutralize color casts.
